A person's faith journey can be dependent on a lot variables especially the experiences shared with the people around them. The INNERQUEST is my reflection on those experiences and how we may find growth in our relationship with God.

The Stage Is Set

“All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts,...” - William Shakespeare

There are at least 140 reality shows currently being aired on TV, via regular broadcast, cable or by satellite. After seeing a variety of these shows, I believe ‘reality’ should be excluded from their description, since the word reality is defined as something being a real thing or actual fact. Maybe ‘surreal’ would be a better word to use, because of the bizarre nature of many of these shows. Is TV a reflection of what we’ve evolved into, or are we becoming what we see on the tube?

What IS real and rather frightening is the attitude and actions our society has evolved into over the past few decades. Political correctness is at a level of absurdity; Have we become too scared to say or do anything of merit, because it may result in a law suit or being ousted from a group, or worse; because it may offend someone? Celebrity values are overtaking the minds and actions of way too many people. The media has lost its focus on how to report factual information. Elected officials across this vast land of ours have become so divided in their convoluted use, or should I say abuse, of power, that they have made a mockery of our Pledge of Allegiance. I wonder if the sanity in this country of ours can be regained and strengthened, so that we can honestly say, “One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

That first Pledge of Allegiance, from September 8, 1892 read: “I pledge allegiance to my flag, and the republic for which it stands: one Nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

This pledge went through some refinement over the years, and on June 14, 1954, the last change occurred when President Dwight D. Eisenhower approved adding the words “under God.” He authorized this change and said.
“In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America’s heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country’s most powerful resource in peace and war.”

Our pledge since then has said, “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Like many strong family units, the big brother is looked upon for guidance and strength, by his siblings. America is the ‘big brother’ to many others in this world, but our ability is weakening because of the deterioration of our pledge and the alienation of God’s existence in our lives as a country. If this was a reality show, we’d be lost and in need of heroes, but content with idols. Are we too focused on the death of a celebrity, instead of the possible death of a nation?

The stage is set and the curtain is up. The performance of our lives is at hand. Reaffirm God’s place in our lives and transcend that religious faith in America’s heritage and for its future. Strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country’s most powerful resource in peace, which we want, and war, which we are in.
